Parker + Lynch is working with a growing company in Lake Forest, IL to find an experienced Assistant Controller to join their expanding team.

The Assistant Controller will assist the Controller to ensure accounting and finance activities are performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other Company practices, policies and procedures. This position also supervises the work of others in the finance and accounting department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial and management reports.
  • Review financial data and trends for accuracy and reasonableness, and investigate data
  • Prepare journal entries and analysis
  • Participate in gathering data in the budgeting process
  • Participate in the annual audit process, including maintaining schedules and coordinating audit requests with staff
  • Participate in bank, insurance and other audits that may occur from time to time
  • Interpret and prepare various data for entry into ERP system, including credit card transactions and labor transactions.
  • Maintain accounting controls policies established by the Company to ensure data accuracy

Skills and specifications

  • Sound judgement and experience to apply to current situations.
  • A good understanding of accounting and finance activities, as well as mathematics
  • A good knowledge about the rules governing preparation of various types of financial statements is required.
  • Be able to work within deadlines and be able to prioritize self and staff to meet the Company’s expected delivery times
  • Good working knowledge of an ERP environment and how transactions interact
  • Excellent analytic and observation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Approachable and willing to help employees both inside and outside of finance
  • Ability to effectively interpret and communicate financial results to non-financial managers and owners

Education and Qualification

The education and qualifications of the Assistant Controller include:

  • The candidate should have a four year college degree in finance, accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively related experience
  • CPA, CMA or MBA preferred
