Manager of Payroll

The Manager of Payroll will lead the payroll processing function for all domestic employees in a fast-paced high growth organization. This role will drive efficiency and process improvement, perform audits and reconciliations of payroll data and approve bi-weekly payrolls. The Manager will respond to frequent requests for payroll information, tax processing and pay policy matters. 


Manages the team responsible for all employee payroll earnings and tax balances, year-end statements, court ordered withholdings and record retention for 3000 employees. 


  • Manages daily administration of weekly and bi-weekly payroll to ensure accuracy and timeliness of processing and distribution of pay.
  • Manages payroll staff.
  • Interfaces with all levels of field and corporate management. Provides guidance according to payroll laws.
  • Interviews and hires department staff, provides orientation and training programs for new members
  • Evaluates the performance of employees and recommends merit increases, promotions or disciplinary action.
  • Evaluates department procedures with regards to productivity and quality issues. Takes appropriate actions to improve deficiencies in order that department standards and objectives are met.
  • Qualifications

  • 10+ years of payroll processing and leadership experience in a faced paced, high growth environment – Healthcare preferred.
  • Extensive understanding of gross to net payroll calculations, taxing rules and federal/state wage and hour laws.
  • Excellent planning, change management, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Prior experience managing both small and large scale payroll related projects and initiatives.
  • Flexible; able to perform and deliver stellar results and a calm demeanor under pressure.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred). Strong excel skills required, including: pivot tables and v-look-ups.
  • Self-motivated and ability to collaborate effectively in a fast paced/team oriented environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or similar. CPP certification a plus.
