A large manufacturing company is hiring a Plant/Site Controller for their location in the east IL area, just east of downtown St. Louis.  This is a role where you will be in charge of and direct the financial objectives for the manufacturing plant.


Summary: Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the accounting department and control functions of the organization. Prepares annual budget and monthly forecast in coordination with corporate financial, planning and analysis and plant operations. Provides analytical support to operations and corporate functions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure company transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP policies


  • Maintains oversight of department activities in regard to company policies and SOX compliance


  • Manages and performs monthly plant financial closing process, including cost accounting and operating reports, ensuring all activities are completed within prescribed timeframes. Oversight and responsibility of financial processes, including sales, production, inventory, purchase coal.


  • Reviews, approves, and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and adherence to policies and procedures.


  • Maintains system of accounts and keeps books and records on all transactions and assets.


  • Interfaces with operating departments for accounting needs. Provides analytical support to plant for evaluation of performance and operating decisions.


  • Coordinates activities with internal and external auditors and prepares financial information for annual reports, customer communications and regulatory agency disclosures.


  • Coordinates activities to ensure timeliness of monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting reporting requirements.


  • Coordinates activities to ensure timely submission of annual budget and monthly forecasting. Responsible for capital budgeting and tracking of capital spend.


  • Coordinate activities to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting to corporate functions, including financial planning and analysis and financial reporting.


  • Provides plant with daily and weekly reporting to monitor performance, including but not limited to daily production and weekly spending reports.


  • Performs review of quarterly coal surveys and ensures results are recorded in accordance with GAAP policies


  • Provides support and analysis for capital projects approval, evaluations and justifications.


  • Participate in operation meetings to provide support in areas such as the safety program, financial impact of operating decisions, union contract negotiations, and monthly/quarterly communications meetings.


  • Trains and coaches team members in efficient work procedures, safe work practices, and good housekeeping practices. Coaches and encourages development and growth of skills and abilities. Establish goals for direct reports that also align with plant and corporate objectives


  • Completes ERP system testing for routine quarterly patch deliveries and enhancement requests


  • Travels to corporate offices or other plant locations periodically as required to attend meetings and trainings.


  • Works effectively with Team Members at all levels of the organization within areas of responsibility, consulting with HR, Department Manager, corporate resources or other parties as necessary

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field from a four-year college or university required; MBA preferred. Leadership/management experience required, experience in manufacturing industry and cost accounting is highly preferred.


  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Proficiency in working with and ERP system required (Oracle preferred). Exceptional knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.


  • Technical Skills: Thorough understanding of GAAP and SOX requirements.
