SUMMARY

 The Staff Accountant is responsible for recording of the accounts payable and receivable, reconciling company and client bank accounts, and maintaining financial records. The Staff Accountant will prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly commentary on financial statement results and comparisons to budget. The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to GAAP reporting and procedural standards.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
  • Maintain tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document record keeping and accounting systems, by making use of current computer technology as well as new resources.
  • Reconcile the company's bank accounts, including serving as backup to the Controller for the reconciliation of our claims reimbursement account.
  • Maintain compliance with unclaimed property process.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company's value.
  • Respond to Controller as assigned with accurate and timely work.
  • Follow and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Oversee the activities of accounts receivables to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings and cash receipts application.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

 To perform this job successfully and grow into the role of Staff Accountant, an individual must possess the following traits and characteristics: detail orientation, strong organizational and prioritizing skills, ability to be flexible and multi-task, high level of personal worth and internal motivation along with strong financial analysis and accounting skills. This skill set must be inherent in an individual that understands the value of providing a high level of customer service with quality being paramount.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a four-year college or university 
  • 1+ years of work experience is required.
  • Previous experience as an accountant preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and handling bookkeeping would be highly desired.
  • The appropriate individual will need to be able to operate independently and utilize data from a variety of different sources.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook are required.
  • A qualified candidate understands that our business objective is to provide superior internal and external customer service. Growth and experience will determine level of responsibilities and duties assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday
