Technical Writer

The position provides the following business value support in the following areas:

  • Development of technical product documentation Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual for computer controlled, custom industrial water filtration systems.
  • Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researches, interviews, writes, and edits technical content for use in technical documents. Types of documents the position will be responsible for writing include, but are not limited to, IO&M, product specifications, requirements, and specification and process documentation.
  • Researches and gathers information to compose technical content. This includes interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs) such as developers, programmers, and other technical personnel and reviewing P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram), electrical schematics, component specification sheets, and controls narrative documents to gather information.
  • Organizes, develops, and composes clear, concise, and readable IO&Ms that may include diagrams, flow charts, and graphics (HMI screens) that must be captured and sometimes manipulated to support content.
  • Operate water filtration system on the production floor as needed to understand operation of the system and aid in the development of new IO&M manuals.

  • Experience working with word processing (Microsoft Word), BlueBeam, Adobe, Photoshop and Visio.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, presentation and analytical skills.
  • Intermediate ability to read and interpret customer documentation, specifications, schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams and drawings, component specification sheets and manuals (pumps, UV sanitizers, reverse osmosis filters, dissolved air flotation, media filters, etc.).
  • Education & Experience

  • 2 - 3 years' experience writing installation, operation and maintenance manuals, and technical documents for both hardware and software.
  • Environmental/Physical Demands

  • Project demands may require additional hours that are beyond the normal work week schedule.
  • Must be able to lift/carry materials, move about the office, turn on and operate a computer in the applicable environment.
