Our client is a well-established banking corporation looking for an experience Underwriter to join their team.  This role can be fully remote permanently if desired, but their office is in Nassau County on Long Island for those looking to go back to an office in the future.  It is a friendly workplace that has received awards for being a top place to work on Long Island.  This is a permanent position, offering a salary up to $110K plus bonus.

  • Provide analytical support and underwriting of residential products, including analysis of all consistent and verifiable income sources and applicable personal expenses to calculate meaningful & accurate qualifying ratios, providing Approving Officer with detailed, insightful information to complete its decision tree.
  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of required business holdings, as applicable, to isolate available income stream.
  • Ensure objectivity and autonomy in all analytical functions, while adhering to Bank policy, procedures and regulations.
  • Establish, maintain & adhere to strong knowledge base of industry underwriting standards and pertinent regulations supported by the underwriter completing required training (live or virtual).
  • Ensure clear and concise verbal and written communication skills when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Possess excellent multitasking skills, objective and priority setting skills and impeccable time management, in addition to demonstrated personal effectiveness. All are paramount to the position.
  • Use effective questioning and listening techniques to obtain information necessary to complete independent assessments. Demonstrate composure and a professional approach should be exhibited with a strong focus on detail, procedure and workflow.
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 8+ years’ experience preferred; 3-7 years experience considered
  • May be in-office or 100% Remote, Part Time flexibility with a minimum of 20 hours/week
  • Must have full knowledge of NY regulations
  • Possess strong knowledge of federal lending regulations governing real estate, consumer lending and secondary market requirements.
  • Must have bank mortgage underwriting experience
  • Ability to work independently and leverage excellent analytical, verbal, writing and organizational skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft suite of products and proven ability to adapt to technology changes.
