Job Summary:
This position will provide mechanical engineering leadership for projects as well as testing and installation support. The successful candidate will have substantial experience with automation, expert solid modeling design skills, project execution experience and risk management skills. Work experience with material selection, fabrication methods and machining processes used for making designed components required.
Major Accountabilities:
Design
Conceptualizes and designs highly complex automatic machines, robotic cells and material handling systems, including development and checking of technical specifications, drawings and bills of material. Assignments require creativity, initiative and good engineering judgement.
Leads design reviews to evaluate: functional and regulatory requirements, error budget development, tolerance analysis, sub-assembly decomposition, manufacturability, material specifications, bills of material development including use of standard components, and validation processes. Experienced with DFMA product development techniques.
Creates 3D part/assembly models and detail drawings for manufacture per design best practices using Solidworks®. Must be able to perform tolerance and finite element analysis on components and assemblies. Working knowledge of Inventor®, AutoCAD®, and other CAD software a plus.
Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design drawings.
Project Execution
Manages the scope of work for mechanical design on projects, including planning, supervising and verifying the work of other engineers and designers to ensure effective performance of the work.
Ensures commitments on projects are met including cost, schedule, function, performance, serviceability, and appearance. Delivers complete and accurate designs within the allotted time.
Provides leadership and direction in technical risk evaluation, functional decomposition and interface management to design team.
Provides effective reports and presentations to communicate concepts, designs, test results, etc.
Supports fabrication, testing and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
Demonstrates and leads systematic, logical, methodical debug activities during the machine testing and debugging.
Leads Proof of Principle testing efforts at onset of design process to mitigate project risks
Evaluates field installations of delivered systems and recommends design modifications as needed.
Sales Support
Supports sales activities including initial customer visits, meetings, concept generation and concept presentations.
Develops and maintains positive customer relations and works to identify additional sales opportunities

Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET). Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) a plus.
Minimum Years of Experience Required:
Ten (10) years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, including substantial 3D modeling and automation systems design experience
