Parker + Lynch is exclusively recruiting for a Director of Manufacturing Operations.  This role can sit in New Mexico or Colorado.  An ideal candidate will already sit in the region, location could be offered.  The top 3 qualifications are:

  • Manufacturing expansion/growing experience.
  • Secret Clearance (Q) or ability to easy obtain clearance.
  • Ability to travel between New Mexico and Colorado.
  • 10+ years of directly related experience in defense manufacturing.
  • The Director of Manufacturing Operations is a key member of the senior leadership team and will have primary responsibility for providing strategic leadership as well as day-to-day management of the manufacturing function. You will oversee up to 100 employees.  The focus of the role is to lead operational excellence and is responsible for providing strategic manufacturing leadership to ensure that the business achieves profitable revenue growth and increases market share, develops core manufacturing competencies, and builds a sustainable industry leadership position.  A recent significant financial investment has been made by a private equity firm to continue growing this entity.

  • The Director of Operations is responsible for manufacturing operations and requires a “Hands-On” leader to achieve business objectives in addition to excellent communication and working relationships with peers and other business leaders.
  • The successful candidate will have significant manufacturing and operations experience, with demonstrated success in driving optimization and best practices across multiple plants locations. This individual will readily understand and translate business goals into strategic operational initiatives.
  • The person in this role will be responsible for managing manufacturing operations across locations with direct responsibility for the following functional areas: Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Scheduling, Distribution, Safety, Inventory Management, Quality, Engineering and Maintenance.
  • Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • Maximize plant efficiency, product quality, throughput, delivery performance, profitability and working capital to achieve strategic growth objectives and improved customer experience through deployment and execution utilizing Lean methodology.
  • Lead make vs. buy and distribution strategies to support growth in support of dynamically changing customer expectations while optimizing cost and lead time.
  • Develop and implement processes, metrics and accountability to drive continuous improvements across manufacturing and sourcing base.
  • Working closely with Sales, Marketing, and Finance, develop goals and objectives consistent with corporate plans.
  • Establish goals with specific KPI metrics for: customer satisfaction, OTD/Lead time, quality, throughput, production efficiency, productivity, inventory, safety and employee satisfaction.
  • Develop operating budgets consistent with goals and objectives and corporate plans.
  • Develop and establish controls and reporting systems to provide accurate information as to accomplishments, progress, performance, capabilities in controlling expenditures, savings, etc.
  • Establish individual performance goals for all manufacturing and support employees.
  • Meet with indirect reports regularly to assess progress in achieving goals. Document performance versus goals as a measurement for merit-based increases.
  • Encourage employee teamwork and innovation. Encourage individual employee involvement by providing opportunities for constructive input and action on viable improvement ideas.
  • Identify training programs for manufacturing and support employees.
  • Ensure safety, environmental housekeeping and cleanliness are at world class levels.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance team to ensure product safety and testing is done to comply with national and international safety standards.
  • Ensure all city, county, state, federal and global regulations are being met.
  • Responsible for the efficient administration of the manufacturing facilities, in accordance with policies, plans and approved procedures.
  • Directs and controls production, sourcing, and engineering activities. This includes controlling quality, cost of production and materials, warehousing, receiving and shipping of materials through appropriate subordinates. Evaluates results and takes actions to improve performance.
  • Plans and schedules production in accordance with company objectives, customer needs, and plant capacities. Must meet production schedules and volumes within the established parameters of cost and time.
  • Directs the planning and utilization of lean tools to improve all areas of the operation. Facilitates teams and ensures all improvements are sustained and continuously improved.
  • Participates in long-range plant expansion, conversion, and equipment planning. Oversees the maintenance of buildings and equipment, and plant security and protection.
  • Reviews and recommends change in personnel, salaries/rates, and other related areas.
  • Qualifications & Key Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, science or manufacturing engineering. 
  • Advanced degree, such as an MBA, is preferred.
  • Twelve or more years of progressively responsible roles leading a manufacturing and sourcing organization.
  • Proven track record implementing best practices including LEAN processes, innovative use of technology, cost reduction tactics and investment decisions.
  • Strong operations background overseeing multiple plants managing P&L by location while managing a high level of customer service in a variety of manufacturing processes.
  • Experienced in supervision and management of hourly and salaried employees in a seasonal business.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively connect with all levels of the organization and customer / supplier contacts.
  • U.S. Citizenship status required, ability to access U.S only data systems.
  • Travel required within the U.S.
